“I can’t put you down
my eyes burn, squint
hand cramps, shoulders angled sharply
I reread that one part again
again, again, again.” ~ B Willing James
All of us know what it is to not be able to put down a book that is just too delicious.
I myself am currently in the midst of a grand love affair with a luscious book series I have to force myself to peel away from in the wee hours of dawn lest I languish from too little sleep. It’s positively wonderful to be in love with a good book!
I love books so much and I have so much within me that wants to come out that I have written a book myself. I have a couple articles that have been posted with regards to this book, which is currently in a holding pattern for publication, as I need to raise funds to make it happen.
If all goes well, I will be publishing with Balboa Press Publishing, which is an imprint of Hay House Publishing. If I sell enough copies with Balboa Press, Hay house will offer up an official publishing contract in which I will be able to unleash the full force of this book series that is swimming around inside me like a goldfish too big for its bowl. The Quest of Heart is the first of many in this books series.
It is about a young woman, Satori, trying to find the other half of her heart (a pet that hangs around her neck and speaks to her quietly like a conscience) and looks like half of a fuzzy heart. The story follows her journey as she encounters beauty, loss, excitement and monsters in search of her heart’s other half.
It is written and illustrated as an allegory. As a whole, it embodies something my mother likes to call “Wisdom Art”, which I feel is an emerging kind of art form (in all platforms) that is being born from a need to express light in a sometimes dark world, and to give people hope which sometimes is greatly needed in this day and age. A respite from the ugly black and whiteness that Reality can sometimes be.
“We rely upon the poets, the philosophers, and the playwrights to articulate what most of us can only feel, in joy and sorrow. They illuminate the thoughts for which we only grope; they give us the strength and balm we cannot find in ourselves. Whenever I feel my courage wavering I rush to them. They will give me the wisdom of acceptance, the will and resilience to push on.” ~ Helen Hayes
I’d like to share an excerpt from The Quest of Heart here. To set the scene, Satori has just collided with something barring her pathway and this is what follows:
“Oooouch!! What just happened?” She asks Half-heart rubbing her head. “There is nothing here!” She stands up, agitated.
Satori slowly walks forward and realizes what she has crashed into. Something that is there but not: a painting. Not just any painting however, but a painting of illusory mischief. For this painting looks exactly like the pathway she was skipping down. As if she could skip right into it!
“What a silly notion!” She was half in awe and half frustrated. “I can’t just skip through a painting! What a cruel trick!”
“Oh but you can!” Said a small silvery voice from behind her. She wheels around to see a very small unicorn standing midair in front of her. “You can indeed walk through that painting. The other half of your heart is inside it, but to walk through that painting you have to have your imagination.”
“What!? What do you mean? I have an imagination.”
“Nope! Reality stole it from you when you crossed the border between the lands of Innocence and Non. Reality hoards imagination. Naturally, he hasn’t one of his own.”
I need your help to find out what happens next. Please follow this link to learn more and to help my project reach the world. The deadline is December 26th, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. PST and it is all or nothing. I am just about half way there, and each day it climbs just a little more. Every little bit helps, even simply sharing it forward and spreading the word.
I can make this happen, I’m planning to give back to others who, like me, are creators trying to keep the world alive.
To all the warriors of Love and Art.
I love you.
