You And Your Storm. {poetry}

By Bethany Lerch.

The trail
was green and bright and crisp,
the first day we walked together
in summer.

You were vivid,
you were genuine,
you were everything,
you and your storm.

We weren’t supposed to be together,
be seen together,
So we put it away,
hid it in the ebb and flow.
And I left
to go somewhere,
be someone.

Months went by,
but the water found me,
you found me.
flawed and rushed and exquisite,
you and your storm.

Then the world beckoned,
and took me away,
away without you,
to go somewhere,
be someone.

Years went by
before I saw you again,
before that truth
in the quiet river
found us again.

So I surrendered
to you and your storm.

We were vivid,
we were genuine,
we were everything,
in our storm.
We were rushed,
we were flawed,
we were exquisite,
in our storm.

We were caught,
we were complete,
we loved too much,
and we didn’t love enough.

The trail
was gray and barren tonight.
It was cold and relentless
this winter night
and I was broken,
I forgot the beauty
of the water in me,
and you forgot the truth
it had always hidden.

You were vivid,
you were genuine,
you were everything,
when I walked away
from you and your storm,
and into my own.
