Nights of Songs.

By Cindy Dell.

They come and go, the nights of songs,
with ebb and flow, forever on.
They fill me up, they overflow
into my waking hours.

I stir and dream, I pitch and turn,
In fits and starts, I crash and burn.
I freeze then boil, I swoon and sweat,
inside a song not finished yet.

A carousel spins in my head,
and swirls ‘round my lyric bed,
with melodies that line my night.
I fluff each phrase, I pillow fight.

My body aches. I curse and moan.
The night becomes a battle zone.
It’s like a lake, deep and profound,
the kind that keeps the ones it drowns.

I sleepwalk through dark corridors,
and music seeps from every door,
dreaming complex symphonies.
jigs and reels, epiphanies…

I dream of words while I’m awake,
lines will come but more I ache.
Until the next wave finally rolls,
the words right off my tongue.

The phantom sounds fill up my ears,
I dream my life in music years.
Don’t wake me up, it’s where I’m from,
Where I belong, inside the song…
