Give Me a Beat. {poetry}

Give me a beat,
a beat, a beat
To drip,
to drip, to drip
To trip across my lip.

Because you and I both know
That’s nothing more than gold fleck
in your eye,
Cast down from an explosion
of starlight in the sky.

You and I both know you’re stationed
With your feet on the ground
But we’re ever winding
Soaring upwards
To this rhythm and this sound

To the shush of the wind
To the cream of your cheek
To the seasons spinning stories,
the whippoorwills in the creek.

You and I both know
There’s a music to it all
An incandescent humming
That if you’re just a little bit quieter
You might recall
Goes back to a time
When sand broke and fell
In to small and smaller pieces
Till it became a barrier against the well:

The well of The Sea
The brine that fell
From Raphael the angel
Or maybe
Pardon me
But just maybe it rose,
instead of fell
From that tricky fallen angel
From Lucipher in Hell.

Give me a beat,
a beat, a beat
Give me the rhythms from your sighs
as your world begins to soften
as I pinch your milky thighs

Give me a beat,
a beat, a beat

Tap your foot against the floor boards
Find some drumming in this heat.

Because you and I both know
There’s a whimsy in this spell
as The Sun keeps her secrets
And as The Moon makes her tell.

Darling.
I love you.

Give me a beat.
