Sending Wishes To The Moon.

I looked up at the moon tonight.

At first, I thought that sitting up in that silken sky amongst the twinkling lights must be the best vocation that there is. I smiled in admiration as the moon made its glowing mark against a sea of darkness.

How strongly it stood in spite of the nightfall giving light and life to the humans below its dim wake. How lucky must you be to sit up there all night collecting dreams? Imagine all the charming scenes painted in the heart’s mind as we sleep.

The moon could look upon the earth and its sleeping creatures peeking in on these adventures.

Oh how lovely it must be to watch the fantasies of the living dance throughout the night. How keen must it be to see inside someone’s subconscious soul?

The moon may be our best friend in the world, you know. For he has seen our deepest wishes that we cast out to the stars, and he has witnessed the ones we don’t dare admit to ourselves. Yes, the moon may know us better than we know ourselves.

He coaxes us to sleep and then revels in our dreams. Do you think the sun might revel in the ones that come to life?

Ah, yes. To be a spectator of our wildest dreams must be quite the profession. But then I thought that the moon might have a harder job after all. Because there must be a reason that his light must fight the dark while the sun sits amongst the dawn.

Could it be that as the moon he not only sees our dreams but our fears too? Could this be what paints the sky as dark as it could go? Is the moon sitting there to tell us not to be afraid, not to give up, and not to give in to dismay?

Imagine how hard it must be to see the anxiety laced in the hearts of the people who can’t sleep. Oh how painful it could become to watch poor souls stare up at their ceilings looking for hope.

It’s in the night we hear fear whispering through the walls and luring us through temptations. It’s in the night that we analyze the very core of our hearts — what if were afraid of what we find? Imagine the burden on the moon as he tries so hard to fight for us, to fight for the light of better days.

I must say the moon has quite the vocation: a Catch-22.

However does he find peace amongst that chaos that breeds below him? How fickle he must think we are to cry out in pain one night and to fall asleep beside joy the next? How mute he must feel when he watches us lose hope when he knows there’s so much to be hopeful for?

Oh, if only the moon could speak, I wonder what lessons he would teach.

For now, I guess we continue to wish our loved ones sweet dreams, pray for better days, and find the strength to fight the nightmares. But next time that you can’t sleep, look up at the moon before you weep. Imagine all that he has seen and know that you are stronger than the nightfall.

Know that you are the stars that add the candlelight to the sky. Remember, that dreaming never ends when you wake.

Don’t just pray for better days — make, make, make.
