International Women’s Day is fast approaching. The hashtag #beboldforchange has been chosen for 2017.

What it means to be truly free, be yourself and shine your truth, your essence as a woman, a man, a human being has never been more prevalent as the world struggles to come to terms with the huge upheavals of the previous year. This project is as much a call to action as a reminder of what it means truly to be in your flow, in your essence, as we begin to pave the way for a more balanced and peaceful future.

“Coming together in natural harmony, five women gather together in the heart of nature, where water cascades effortlessly over the ancient rockface. Time slows down, allowing for a deep inner healing as we strip bare, each of us needing to shed a different layer of skin, old debris, non-physical fecal matter which has been pressing down upon us.

We come in celebration and love, no expectations to mar us as we are joined by a guiding light. And here in this space, we are gifted with the opportunity of letting go, allowing the water to flow over us, cleansing us as we join in circle, embodying the beauty of the feminine essence, the freedom to stand in our truth nourished by the presence and support of each other.

We sing, we soothe, we heal ourselves and hold space for each other to do the same.

‘Powerful’, ‘evocative’, ‘sensual’ and ‘awakening’ are some of the words that come to mind having experienced this ‘flow’ on the day these photos were taken. The nature of what it means to embody this sense of celebration of the feminine with my fellow sisters, the freedom that it allowed, the beauty that lies within, shining outwards.

I brought my camera this particular day on a whim, yet the essence of what flowed through me as I captured these images felt preordained just as the waterfall has sounded and sounds even now with the consistent hum of life here on earth. For me, this embodies what it means to be in full feminine flow.

The patriarchal society I have grown up in, learned to survive in and spent much of my youth trying to conform to, has taken its toll. Relearning what it means to embody the true essence of my femininity is an ongoing journey, but I feel it is an absolute necessity particularly in the times we are currently living in.

Not only healing myself, but the generations of women and men who have come before me, who also have suffered as a result of this imbalance of energies in the current paradigm. This has led to ingrained mentalities, and in some places, acceptance of gross abuse on every level.”

The time has never been riper to put a stop to these confined, ego- and mind-driven patriarchal parameters we have been stuck in for too long. It is time to embody who it is we really are, stand up and speak our truths from wherever they arise from. The power to be ourselves, in touch with our sisters, brothers and the essence of what makes us a human ‘being’ here on earth is in our hands.

Question the old norms, look deeper into your own preconceived ideas, and throw out that which no longer serves you, your fellow sisters and brothers, the generations that came before you and those that are yet to come. Be brave, be yourselves through and through, and #beboldforchange.

She is drawn to stories and ways of expressing which strive towards empowering and raising global consciousness. Connecting to ancient traditions, shamanism and indigenous communities is a strong part of her calling as she believes that the more we learn to reconnect to the natural world and our own inner wisdom, the more we will be able to (re)discover the flow and harmony each of us so desperately desires. “Before long the indelible wisdom ‘be the change’ can transform into ‘I am the change’. This is where the beauty of the journey lies and the story unfolds most magnificently.” Connect to Aoise (pronounced Eesha) on Instagram, via her website, or email her for more information about prints and edition prints of her photographs.
