Woman, It Must Be You.

“She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the Universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings.” ~ Ariana Dancu

We are the descendants of Eve, who ate from the Tree of Life ignoring the subservient demands of a patriarchal God. We are the descendants of Lilith, who taught us to proudly embrace our wild feminine nature and sexuality. We are the descendants of Mary of Nazareth, Mary Magdalene, and Mary of Cleopas, who taught us that the strength of women in numbers can overcome any crucifixion.

We are the descendants of Sarah, who taught us that age is nothing but a number, while the power of the womb is resolute.

We are the descendants of Sacagawea, the huntress who led men on dangerous exhibitions through foreign terrain. We are the descendants of Lozan and Moving Robe, Apache and Lakota warriors who resisted oppression, and protected a people. We are the descendants of the Cherokee woman, Nan’yehi, a diplomat and peacemaker who counseled European-Americans and Indigenous tribes.

We are the descendants of Water Protectors, a sacred lineage and heritage with the sole purpose to protect that which is life.

We are the descendants of Oshun, an orisha connected to water and divinity, a spiritual matriarch of the Yoruba tribe — my ancestors. We are the descendants of Isis with a thousand names, goddess of Earth and Sky, and fertility and motherhood, who embodies the true essence of Black Girl Magic.

We are the descendants of Araminta Ross (Harriet Tubman), Sarah Mapp Douglass, and Ida B. Wells, abolitionists and activists who lived free despite white supremacist attempts to corrupt their souls. We are the descendants of Africa, the Motherland, where all life began.

Woman, intuition is your superpower. Disobedience is your birthright. Sex is your pleasure principle. Your strength is innate.

Woman, your womb makes you divine. Your instincts lead you to safety. You were born to wear a sash of justice around your curved waist. You are the giver of life.

Woman, you connect to spirit with ease. Your being is magical. Your resilience cannot be touched. You embody freedom. Only in your arms can humanity survive.

Woman, you are the great maiden, mother, and sage. Your natural ebb and flow with the cycles of the Moon and the seasons of Mother Earth equips you with enough power to literally heal the world.

Woman, It Must Be You.

It must be you who names what is unfair and unjust, so that we might create a new world order fostering abundance for all. It must be you who dismantles centuries-old discordance created by man, to bring us back to the soul of who we are as members of humanity.

It must be you who inspires by your example how best to live in a world that can be so cold. It must be you, Woman, who governs and influences — reclaiming your time as a revered being.

It must be you who encourages young wildlings — male and female — to set their own rules and standards of success, with shared values that reflect what makes each of us unique.

It must be you who knows that your worth and value can shatter any glass ceiling, whether we break the patriarchy with a powerful #MeToo, or march in unison for peace across the globe.

It must be you who acknowledges the worth and value of all women, no matter their hue, sexual orientation, economic standing, creed or physical ability.

It must be you who cultivates a way and a will to prevail, so that our enemies know better than to become our enemies. No more “silence to keep the peace” — our dragon was never meant to be tamed.

It must be you who unlearns the ways of sexism, taking a seat at the table of power — that is where you belong. You must spread the word that women do run the world. For any man to play on our team, he must see himself as worthy too, able to show up as the Queen commands.

And woman, when you are tired, it must be you who knows when to go on retreat, to regularly connect to Source, to nurture and restore. You are no good to us if you are no good to yourself. Goddesses know this truth.

So Woman, show us the way forward. Guide us toward the light of divine love. Inspire us by your wisdom. Empower us to firmly stand against hate. Remind us to be kind. Express truth, unapologetically. Demand respect. Encourage us to purge, to heal, to change, to transform. Show us the way.

Woman, It Must Be You.
